Prenatal Breastfeeding Support in Austin, Texas
Personalized, expert-guided lactation care so you can begin feeding with clarity and confidence — before your baby arrives.
Feeding Support Shouldn’t Start After Birth
Too often, feeding begins in crisis. But it doesn’t have to.
Most families spend months preparing for birth, but almost no one explains what to expect when feeding begins, how milk production works, what’s normal in the first days, when to pump, when to ask for help, and how to make feeding decisions that support both your baby and your mental health.
Prenatal lactation support helps you start your feeding journey with a plan, instead of panic.
Lactation care doesn’t have to be crisis care.
It can start during pregnancy, with education, preparation, and support already in place.
Why Prenatal Lactation Care?
When you meet with an IBCLC during pregnancy, you’ll receive the education and support needed to help you feel confident when your baby arrives.
Prenatal visits are completely personalized, but common topics include:
How milk production works
What to expect in the first 24 hours, first week, and first month
How to know if your baby is getting enough milk
Latch and positioning basics
Bottle feeding recommendations
Personalized pump fitting
Why and how to collect colostrum before birth
Low milk supply risk factors, including breast surgery
Creating a postpartum feeding plan
Protecting your mental health while feeding
Building your postpartum support system
You will leave with a plan — not just information.
Three Ways to Get Prenatal Feeding Support
The families I work with choose one or more of these three options:
1. Free Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
A great starting point if you want clear, evidence-based information about how breastfeeding works and what to expect in the early weeks.
Best for families who:
Want to understand the basics
Want to know what’s normal
Want to feel more prepared before baby arrives
2. Prenatal Lactation Consultation (One-Time Visit)
A personalized prenatal visit where we talk through your goals, concerns, and plan for feeding your baby.
During a prenatal consultation, we can:
Talk through your feeding goals
Learn to use your pump and fit you for pump flanges
Discuss colostrum collection before birth
Review previous breastfeeding challenges
Assess for low milk supply risk factors
Include your partner so they know how to support you
Create a postpartum feeding plan so you know what to expect
Prenatal Lactation Consultation — $325
Available in-home in the Austin area
Virtual Prenatal Consultation – $150
Available worldwide
3. Concierge Lactation Packages (Most Comprehensive Support)
For families who want expert guidance, continuity of care, and ongoing support — not just a single visit.
Many families book a package during pregnancy so we can create a plan, reserve space around their due date, and make sure support is already in place when baby arrives.
With a package, you receive:
A personalized prenatal feeding plan
Guaranteed access to postpartum visits (no scrambling to see which local IBCLC has openings when things feel hard!)
Ongoing adjustments as feeding evolves
24-hour, direct access to expert support when questions come up
This is my highest level of support, providing continuity of care from pregnancy through the postpartum period — so you’re never trying to figure things out on your own.

Who This Is For
This support is for thoughtful, proactive parents who want to feel prepared, informed, and supported — not like they’re flying by the seat of their pants on 2.5 hours of sleep postpartum.
This care is for your family if you: (four separate boxes, not a list)
Are a first-time parent who doesn’t want to go into the newborn days blind
Are a second- or third-time parent wanting a different, more supported feeding experience this time
Value expertise and want to learn from someone who does this every day
Want evidence-based care, but also want your values, intuition, and mental health to matter
Prefer proactive support rather than waiting until breastfeeding feels like a crisis
Appreciate high-touch, personalized, judgment-free support
Want to go into postpartum knowing who to call, what’s normal, and what to do if things feel hard
If you feel better when you have a plan and an expert in your corner, my concierge support is for you.
Why do families choose proactive, prenatal care with The Lactation Expert?
Traditional care is reactive. You call only when you are already in pain or in a state of crisis
The Lactation Expert care is proactive. We take a holistic approach, building your personalized plan prenatally to prevent common struggles before they start.
Insurance, HSA, and Payment Information
Many families ask about insurance coverage for lactation visits.
While I do not bill insurance directly, many insurance plans will reimburse for lactation visits with an IBCLC. I provide superbills that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
I also accept HSA and FSA cards, which many families use for prenatal and postpartum lactation visits and packages.
If you plan to use insurance reimbursement, I recommend calling your insurance provider and asking about their reimbursement rate for out-of-network lactation care.

FAQ’s
-
Many families book packages during pregnancy to reserve their due date. I limit the number of clients I take each month so I can provide high-touch support, and package clients are scheduled first. Booking during pregnancy ensures availability and allows us to create a plan before baby arrives. You can book as early as the first trimester to guarantee a spot on my calendar when your baby is born.
-
Most families schedule a prenatal visit around 35-37 weeks, but it’s never too early to start planning. Prenatal lactation support can be especially helpful if you are a first-time parent, had previous breastfeeding challenges, are planning to pump, have risk factors for lactation challenges (e.g. a history of breast surgery, thyroid disorder, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, or known infant health concerns), or just want to feel more prepared before your baby arrives.
-
Many feeding challenges can be prevented, or made much easier, with preparation during pregnancy. A prenatal lactation consultation helps you understand how milk production works, what to expect in the early days, and how to make a feeding plan so you’re not trying to figure everything out while recovering from birth and caring for a newborn.
-
That’s completely okay. Prenatal visits can include discussion of pumping, combination feeding, formula feeding, and how to make feeding decisions that work for your family.
-
While I do not bill insurance directly, many insurance plans will reimburse for lactation visits with an IBCLC. I provide superbills that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA cards are also accepted for prenatal and postpartum lactation visits and packages. Ask me about payment plans for concierge lactation packages.
-
Yes. Virtual visits are a great option if you prefer to meet from home or live outside the Austin area
-
Prenatal lactation support is especially helpful if you had low milk supply, painful latch, or other feeding challenges previously. We can review your history and make a plan for this baby.
-
I recommend all families anticipating a cesarean birth or induction meet with a lactation consultant prenatally. Both c-sections and inductions can be risk factors for a delay in milk coming in. We can make a feeding plan specifically for these circumstances as well as for c-section recovery and the early postpartum period.
-
Yes, many families choose to learn hand expression and colostrum collection during pregnancy. During a prenatal visit, I can teach you how to safely collect and store colostrum and help you decide whether this is a good option for you.
-
If you had a positive previous experience, you may want a refresher. If you had challenges before, a prenatal visit can help us make a different plan this time and set you up for a smoother experience.
-
I provide in-home prenatal lactation consultations in Austin, Texas and the surrounding areas including Central Austin, South Austin, Westlake, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Buda, Kyle, and nearby communities. Please inquire if you live outside these areas. Virtual visits are available anywhere in the world.
